All Cornell freshmen live on North Campus. The North Campus community encourages first year students to forge a class identity, provides resources to ease the transition from high school to college, and offers opportunities for students to get to know faculty.

Students live in the state-of-the-art Mews, Court, Kay and Bauer Halls and in renovated adjacent residence halls. Appel Commons, a recreational and dining facility, anchors the complex. Gifts to name spaces on North Campus-which is fully paid for-help fund West Campus.

In 2003 the Carol Tatkon Center opened to provide a wide variety of student and academic services to first year students. The center is named for the late Carol Clark Tatkon '59.

Plans are underway to expand Helen Newman Hall, in order to meet the high demand for fitness and recreational facilities on North Campus.
