"Getting to know house faculty is definitely beneficial. They are always open and approachable. Living in a West Campus house is an awesome experience with great resources."

Bethe House opened in January 2007 and honors the memory of the late Nobel prize winning physicist Hans Bethe. Cornell's most distinguished professor, Bethe won the Nobel Prize-for explaining the process that powers the stars. He led the theoretical division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory during the Manhattan Project and made essential contributions to the field of quantum electrodynamics. Bethe also worked tirelessly to make the world safer.

Bethe was appointed assistant professor at Cornell in February 1935 and promoted to professor in 1937. Except for sabbatical leaves and an absence during World War II, he remained at Cornell throughout his career. Learn more about Hans Bethe
